Tomas de la Milera discovered a passion for hair-styling at the early age of 14, when his sister asked him to trim her hair prior to a big night out. Seven years later he rediscovered this passion when he chose to attend cosmetology school to pursue a career as a hairstylist. The minute he walked into beauty school he was hooked, he felt like belonged in the creative hair-styling environment. He started by getting a scholarship to the ABBA Hair Academy [founder of ABBA Products] to work as an apprentice under the tutelage of renown stylist Alan Benfield Bush, once the Art Director of the Vidal Sassoon Academy in San Francisco. Soon after Tomas set his sights on working under the watchful eye of the man who was the driving force behind the Vidal Sassoon Salons and Academies: none other than the legendary Christopher Brooker. Following the ABBA experience he found himself accepted to the prestigious Vidal Sassoon Academy’s 13-week advanced hair-styling training program. His hard work and talent did not go unrecognized; he was then accepted into the elite Vidal Sassoon apprentice program on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, where for two years he continued to perfect his craft.
There Tomas was given the opportunity of working with the best in the business, including Reese and Jett Wooden, Steve Moody, and H. Peters among others. But his greatest joy was apprenticing under Christopher Brooker, who was then the International Artistic Director of Vidal Sassoon. After leaving Sassoon in the late 80’s Tomas was determined to continue his training by seeking an apprenticeship with the former U.S. artistic director for Vidal Sassoon, the famous stylist Henry Able. Tomas was fortunate to spend 6 months training with Mr. Able and credits him with providing the finishing touches of creativity in hair design.
Tomas Hair Salon opened in the early 90's in the up and coming community of Montrose, California. Tomas is recognized for bringing the Vidal Sassoon aesthetic to clients in the Montrose area. He became a sought out platform artist for companies such as Aveda, Gloria Natalia, Matrix Color and Toni & Guy, where as an ambassador he helped launch the well-known Bed Head Line of styling products. During 1992 Tomas also had the pleasure of becoming the hair director for Victor Sabino Salon in San Marino [known for its OGGI product line]. Tomas’s work has been featured in top trade magazines such Passion Magazine, Modern Salon, Coiffure, Sophisticated Hairstyles, just to name a few. There was a constant demand and interest for his latest hair designs from numerous hair styling publications. In 2008 Tomas was hired by DreamWorks Studios in Los Angeles to design the hairstyle for “Susan”, one of the main characters in the animated film “Monsters vs Aliens”.
Today Tomas continues to create stunning individualized hair designs for his clients at Farrago Hair Studio in Montrose, California, of which he is part-owner. He is sought after as an instructor to up and coming stylists and seasoned professionals. Most recently he was interviewed by the national hair-styling podcast “ScissorSalute”.
Tomas’ Vision: Tomas’ goal is to create and empower a team of professional stylists who will lead our industry through collaboration, creativity, honesty and integrity.
